Unfortunately, whilst Autodesk are happy to provide pdf tools for 2D, they have opted to not give us an option to plot 3D pdf's.

You can look at third party apps:

- Bentley view (Free, but requires the model to be converted to plain Autocad and opened in Bentley view prior to printing).

- Tetra 4D (About $400-$500?)

- 3D PDF (About $100)

I'm sure there will be other apps out there as well. All will have some limitations...

Cheers.

Thanks Dart

I have 3d PDF Express app, which I bought from the Autodesk Apps. Which is working on AS2017, not AS2018.

Bluebeam (either CAD or Xtreme) can generate 3D PDFs via an export to Navisworks.

We've found this to be pretty reliable.

Why not DWF and point them to install the DWF Viewer (albeit its pretty old and hasn't been updated in years from memory?)

Or even upload the model to A360 and send them a link to it?

I tried this with a 2018 model but the design review had a problem reading the file.

Edit, Just used Autodesk 360, viewing the file is a bit jittery but without a 3D pfd option (which Tekla has) it's seems the best we can hope for.

I like DWFx.  Its easily opened by Navisworks, which most of our clients use for coordination.  For clients who don't use it, I send them the link for the free install of Navisworks Freedom as well as an XML file that makes their settings Imperial and easy to use right out of the box.  I find the measuring tools for Navisworks to be LIGHTYEARS better than TrueView or other model viewing freewares.

Did you have to do anything special to get it work in 2017? I have it working on my 2016 Suite, but it won't work in any of my 2017 programs, just says, "unknown command" when I click the app in CAD.

The Bluebeam Revu Extreme (or CAD) plugin for Navisworks works flawlessly.  It can generate 3D PDFs directly from Navisworks or it can create .u3d files that can be imported into any PDF to add 3D content.

A Navisworks file that is around 100 MB in size can generate a 3D PDF file that is around 2 MB and can easily be emailed.
