In advance steel, its very advantageous to draw while using 2D-wireframe, as this allows the user to select center lines, corners on the opposite side of beams etc...

The downside of this is that the performance is very limited, which becomes apparent in larger models. When rotating, the program has to switch to a 3D-view, as rotating is performed within the 3D-space, and then switch back to 2D-wireframe. This is makes model almost completely unusable if the model is moderately large and has a couple of xrefs attached.

I've tried customizing my own 3D-wireframe viewmode, show occluded lines and all that (basically i followd this guide). Which looks good at a first glance but the utility of selecting occluded lines, such as center lines or opposite corners, is lost.

Is there a way to customize the 3D-wireframe viewmode to allow me to select the occluded lines?

It could be your OSnap settings.

The issue isn't really that I can't snap to occluded points, more so that I can't select occluded objects or lines.

I could be misunderstanding the issue.  I am not having issues with selecting occluded lines or occlude grip points.

These are my settings, if these help.  I am not aware of any other system settings that could be causing this behaviour.  It has been so long since I set this up I can't remember the default settings.

I tried with your settings, and it didn't make a difference for me. I've attached a quick screen recording which hopefully explains what I'm trying to convey.

My settings are from this Wireframe visual style. I don't use the other '3DWireframe'

Ah, I see. That seems to have done it. Thanks a lot!
