Document Receipt Acknowledgement by Receivers in Transmittal

The General Contractor and Consultant require other contractors and subcontractors to acknowledge receipt of shared data and documents. This acknowledgment serves as confirmation that they are committed to following the instructions and agreed-upon plans with the entire project team.

Is it possible to have an acknowledgment option within the Transmittals module in Autodesk Docs to support this workflow?

Yes, there are “Viewed” and “Downloaded” columns available, but these alone do not serve as an official acknowledgment from the recipient.

What’s needed is a clear acknowledgment action to confirm that the receiver has not only accessed the documents but also agrees to the instructions or plans shared.

@k_mujahidS8VYC I suspect your message is more contractually nuanced.

An idea to consider. Create a customised Form. Give it the title of the transmittal. Add as many questions as you think satisfactory to indicate that the contractors/subcontractors have understood the contents of the transmittal. Add mandatory signatures by their MD/ commercial director/ Head PM. 

These transmittals you are referring to must be in the 2 digits. I suspect they don't enter the triple digits. So there wouldn't much additional work on Forms for your team. And the fact that you can customise the questions in the form, will bring clarity beyond any doubt that the items are received, understood, and commenced actioning.

I fully agree with the point raised by @k_mujahidS8VYC .

Currently, within ACC Transmittals, the recipient status only reflects “Viewed” or “Downloaded.” However, these do not constitute a formal acknowledgement of receipt. It’s only a system activity log, not a legally or procedurally reliable receipt.

For proper document control, especially for critical submissions, ideally, we would need to include either:

• A Document Receipt Acknowledgement button within the Transmittal module, or
• A sign-back function where recipients can confirm receipt with their name, signature, and date

For example, when sending hardcopy documents (e.g., As-Built drawings via courier), recipients are typically required to sign and return a transmittal acknowledgment as proof of receipt. A similar mechanism is necessary for digital transmittals to ensure traceability and accountability.

At present, the system’s “Viewed” or “Downloaded” status alone is insufficient as an official acknowledgment.
