A360 SYNC folder needs to be movable
I, no doubt like many others, use an SSD as my C:\ drive. We need to be able to move the A360 folder to an HDD so that its syncing doesn't waste writes on our precious SSDs.
I am surprised this is not a option yet, most cloud drives have the option to move the storage to another drive. I need this option to so it gets my vote to.
I run SSD's on both my Desktop and Laptop which only have either 256gb or 128gb which is limited when you have Autodesk Design Suites and all my other software installed on it. Also my HD's are in Raid 1 format which I like for backing up etc, so having the A360 on my D drives would make me use it a whole lot more.
This has been a wish list for a while and the team is aware of it. Thanks for posting the link to the blog and keep in mind anytime you modify the default Autodesk Settings you are in an unsupported condition. We don't know how sync will work if you make these changes. So be sure to backup any files you may modify.
Also it's great to see the comments here, but be sure to also give the idea Kudos. We look at that to see who likes this idea and would like to see it implemented in a future version.
Thanks again for all the updates and the link to the blog.
Not at all and it also does not guarantee that it will get implemented. The IdeaStation is something we take very seriously, but it’s not the only place we look at for research.
I posted this somewhere else and Bud suggested i post it here.
Does anyone know how to move the A360 desktop drive location from the Default User folder location (C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Autodesk\Autodesk Sync\Cloud\<LoginName>) to a second harddrive that i have on my machine.
There are a number of reasons for this:-
1. storage capacity (as stated earlier in the discussion)
2. file path size gets too long. I was sent a zip file from a client and when i tried to unxip it into my A360 file system it rejected it as the resulting filepath would be too long
3. drive stability (the c:dive is inheritantly at risk of failure more than a storage drive because of the work it has to do).
One drive, Creative cloud and Dropbox all allow you to move the storage location. It would be a real plus if A360 did as well.
Maybe if we add to the list of operational reasons for A360 desktop to be moved then it will rise up the priority list. for example
4. ease of document backup
5. Ease of saving attachments from email (you may not have noticed you can't navigate the A360 drive from outlook)
I tested by making a new folder on my autocad360.com and upload a file into it. After some time (the sync process is rather slow by me) the new folder and the file appeared in my new D:\Autodesk\A360_Drive sync folder.
Please correct me, if this is a wrong way to do it.
This absolutely must happen. We have projects that are demanding A360 use, now the option of disabling A360 has gone away due to this but it duplicates information in the last place that we would chose because we use solid state drives as other's have pointed out. Otherwise we have no choice but to do the work-around. Spending at least a thousand dollars for a larger SSD and then the cost of time to re-install software packages on 20+ workstations is cost prohibitive.
I have and stopped using A360 until this has been implemented (if ever)
Instead I now use my Microsoft OneDrive 365 business account cloud service which works fine but I would of prefered to use A360 for client collaboration.
IMHO - as others have stated - a 'must have' since when working with SSD drives with limited space, compared to large traditional drives, then 100GB is eating lots of drive space of the limited SSD drive...
Hope this can soon be 'managed' in some kind of preference, like Dropbox does...
