Hello everyone,
I’m looking for guidance on selecting a laptop that will be well-suited for my current and future workflow in Autodesk products.
I currently work in a construction and façade-related role, primarily producing shop drawings and layouts for ACM (Aluminum Composite Material) panel systems. At the moment, my day-to-day work is focused on basic AutoCAD use (2D drafting, shop drawings, and detailing). However, my company has expressed interest in expanding into more BIM-based workflows, which may include AutoCAD Architecture and potentially Revit in the near future.
Because of this, I’d like to invest in a system that handles AutoCAD smoothly now but is also capable of scaling into more demanding applications without needing to upgrade again right away.
I’d appreciate recommendations or insights on:
- CPU (Intel vs AMD, clock speed vs core count for AutoCAD vs Revit)
- GPU requirements (especially since my current work is mostly 2D, but may expand into 3D/BIM)
- RAM (what’s realistic for longevity—16GB vs 32GB?)
- Storage considerations (NVMe, SSD size recommendations)
- Any specific laptop models or brands you’ve had good experience with in a similar field
For context, my work involves:
- Shop drawings and fabrication layouts
- Plan interpretation (architectural + structural)
- Coordination with field and project management teams
I’m trying to balance performance, reliability, and long-term usability as my role evolves.
