Profile layout tools

I am trying to layout a road profile. I have created a profile view with my existing surface. I select "Create Profile View By Layout" in the pulldown to create my vertical road geometry and I get the Profile Layout Tools pop-up but all the buttons are greyed out so I can't do anything with it. This is the first time I have had this problem. Anyone know what's causing this? I am using C3D 2008.

I remember that bug.  I never figured out what caused it...  It just happened sometimes with 2008 (and maybe with 2009, too...?).

Shutting down and restarting Civil 3D would clear it up.

Just ran into this problem again in C3D 2012.  I guess some bugs just don't go away...

Same solution as always, though...  Shut down and restart C3D.

Wish I knew what caused this.

I have seen this when multiple drawings are open and the layout toolbar has been left displayed in one of the other files.

This happens a few times a month with me.  I just close C3D and openin it again.  That resolves the issue and lets me keep working.

This happens to me nonstop, and I'm so sick of closing and restarting C3D multiple times a day because of it. The profile layout tools are always randomly greying out. Autocad, why isn't this fixed yet!?!

This is still happening to me, but when I exit CAD it does not fix the issue. Any other ideas?

The only thing that comes to mind is if you're trying to edit a profile that is a data shortcut, then the layout tools will always be grayed out. You would have to go into the source drawing to edit it. 

Otherwise, I can't think of any reason why the layout tools would be grayed out.
