Volumetric mask in mental ray?

Hi everyone!

I'm need to know how to create a few masks.

 

I need to re-render my animation (animated objects and camera) but that will take too long but  I had to change something in my objects but my camera path is the same.

I want to mask my objects (like inside of a sphere) and then only render it in order to see the new animation and how it will affect the environment around it.

 

I know that you can do it in Vray very easy with something called vray sphere fade (image attached) but im rendering in mental ray

there are so many ways of doing this by using a volume light, fog effect and with a mental ray Volume Shading

Well, actually Mental Ray has the option to render only the selected object.  You'll have to create a separate shadow mat pass or re render the floor too in case you have reflections on it.
