Shapes imported from Illustrator

Hello, 

I'm trying to import a shape from illustrator which is basically a trophy model, I'm trying to convert it to Mesh then Smooth it and apply a material but when I apply the same material to a Teapot or a Box the look is completely different, what I'm doing wrong or how can I get the same look on imported shape(s)?

Can you share a screenshot of both results side by side? 

It could be that the default UV mapping on your imported model is not appropriate or has some scaling issues, causing any applied textures to become distorted.
