Shadows of glass in viewport (Nitrous Max 2017)

Does anyone know how to get shadows of objects that have transparency (eg, glasses or an alpha channel tree) to cast shadows in the viewport?

I have the nitrous viewport setup to cast shadows based on scene lighting and that looks good, but when I have an object that isn't 100% opacity, it casts no shadow at all. When I render it the shadows are correct, but I need to be able to see shadows whilst in the viewport.

This is something that used to work... so maybe it is a setting somewhere?

Cheers

is your viewport set to realistic and do you have the viewport illuminate with default lights checked/ticked  this should show your shadows in the viewport,

IF not then you RT or LT click on the viewport label you will get a drop down menu as you know then you click the realistic move down to lights and shadows then you will see  illuminate with default lights check/tick that...

Thanks for the reply.

That does work if you use the illuminate with default lights. The problem is, I am wanting to see where the shadows are falling at a particular time using a daylight system.

I use an alpha channel opacity/transparency for modelling trees and want to test the best location for the trees for maximum shadows onto a footpath (if that makes sense?).

I am confused. once you set the time example 12am then the shadows will fall at that time. or are you trying to hide the shadows until you that time hits the mark and then the shadows appear? i don't think that is possible with daylight system because there is no buttons or check/tick box to hide the shadows like there are with the other lights in max

Sorry i cannot help you anymore

Not trying to do anything that complicated....
I am doing street design and need to move trees around until they create shade on the footpath/sidewalk at specific times of the day.
