Render particles as a separate element/pass

Hi All,

I can't seem to find a way of making particles render as a separate pass. I would think that adding a material id to the particles, then adding a material id pass (render element) would work. But it doesn't. and I cant assign an object id to a particle system. Am I missing something?

Cheers

So I assume its not possible? Seems an odd thing, not being able to do it though, as I would think that many people would want to do post production on just the particles.

Cheers

To help properly, we'll need a little more information.  What kind of particle system are you rendering, and what render engine are you using?

I did a quick test with a Spray, V-Ray 3.4, and the MultiMatteElement.  I was able to change the G-Buffer (Object ID) of the Spray to 1, and the MME pass showed it as red against black.  If your setup is different let us know how and we can see if there's a way to produce the results you expect.

Awesome. I was using pflow, but I found that if I selected the particles, rather than the emitter, then I could change the ID as you said.

Many thanks
