I am switching from 3ds Max 2017 to 2020. In the material browser why are the Physical Materials orange and the Arnold materials dark red? Does that mean something?

It's probably just default Group Coloring coming across oddly. Just 'right-click' on the name of a group, hit '...Edit Group Color' and 'Reset' the color or choose one you like better. The colors have no other meaning.
