HOW TO DETERMINE LIGHT CACHE SUDVISIONS TO USE USING PROGRESSIVE IMAGE SAMPLER

Please help.I render scenes using progressive image sampling in 3dsmax 2016 vray 3.4.I have realised that when i put subdivision of,say, 2500 for an image of size 3000 x 2000,it comes out with a lot of noise.I end up putting subdiv of 50000 and just cancel the render when i have attained good enough quality.

My question now is,is there a systematic way of determining light cache  subdivisions that are  appropriate for an image of particular isize or resolution.

Yes, there is a way to 'see your light cache solution' and adjust it as a need but my question to you is are you using Light cache for first bounce?? if so that is not recommended. Light Cache is better used as a secondary lighting solution.

The 'noise' you see is sampling noise?? or GI noise(splotches) the first one is small and grainy looking and that's controlled by the sampling.

The second one is larger and looks like blobs of bright and dark areas and is produced bad GI solution.

 

 

The noise is adjusted with the sampler control.  You have a number of samples and Noise threshold (How sensible the pixels react to color difference)

 

Light Cache spread the light in your scene, obviously there more the light, less work for the sampler, so even tho they work together, is not a direct effect on the sampling noise.
