Fume FX - VRay Rendering Time

Anonymous
Not applicable

Hi,

Probably simple reasoning but i cannot currently work out source of the problem- 3DS Max 2017, Vray 4.3, Fume Fx 4.1 - all latest full commercial versions.

Have a pre-prepared scene, with fixed physical camera settings... render time: 11 seconds.

Add a Fume FX Grid and a helper for example...don't even begin simulating anything... then delete the fumefx grid and any associated helpers, so should be back to where i was. Render time now over 1 minute.

Clearly the addition of a FumeFx grid is changing a system/V-ray render setting by default that is massively increasing the render time, but what on earth is it?!

Many thanks in anticipation for any feedback.

Edit: Retested- forget helpers or actually running any fumefx simulation- simply adding a grid and deleting it immediately after causes the 10x render time increase- it must change a setting...

PROBLEM SOLVED:

Took a while inspecting settings then recalled fumefx's implementation of "FusionWorks Renderer" to render the voxels. It automatically gets added as an Atmosphere effect when a FumeFx grid is added. Simply going to Environment>Atmosphere and removing the Fusionworks renderer effect and back to fast render time.
