Downloading Cryptomatte for 3DS Max Arnold

Tried to download the Cryptomatte plugin for 3DSMax Arnold but the newly downloaded AOVs won't show up in the render settings (in the AOV part). Could you guys help me out? I guess I must have done a mistake as I probably implemented the files incorrectly. This is the tutorial provided by Arnold: https://support.solidangle.com/display/A5AF3DSUG/Cryptomatte

Here's what I did:

Would really appreciate it if you guys could help me out!

Cryptomatte has two dependencies:

Thanks for the reply!

So I'll need to download Microsoft Visual C and use that programme in order to implement Cryptomatte into Arnold 3DSMax?

(Sorry, I really don't have any clue how all this works...just wanted to have a materialID rendering of my Arnold Rendering)

If you don't have the Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 redistributable installed, then download and install it.vcrdist_2010.png

The "Microsoft redistributables" aren't a separate program.  They're a series of "lego bricks" that other programs reference so the developers don't have to build (and keep up to date) frequently used low-level stuff.  It also promotes a consistency of operation and look to different programs.

What version of maxtoa do you have?

What happens if you open a command prompt and run

"C:\Program Files\Autodesk\3ds Max 2018\Plugins\MAXtoA\kick.exe" -nodes

Downloaded MaxtoA with the newest 3DS Max student version (2018), so I guess it must be the newest version,

I tried to run the file but a window popped up for like 1 sec and it was immediately closed again and nothing happened. 😕

The screenshot in your original post showed MAXtoA files dated Feb 9 2017. That's kinda old.

Download the latest maxtoa from solidangle.com

To run kick, open a command prompt first.

Then run kick in that command prompt.

Hi there!

I managed to add the cryptomatte files inside the MAXtoA folder of 3ds max 2019 (see attached screenshot); however, after rendering and opening the produced OpenEXR files, the AOV layers are just the outlines of the objects, meaning that they do not include the actual objID colour separation that you normally get from the cryptomatte.

Does anyone have a clue concerning that?
