Colour changes between programs

I was wondering what I am doing wrong, when pulling a model from Inventor into 3DS max the colour changes. Im looking to use specific RGB colours and materials (developed in Inventor) which do not seem to translate when opening into 3DS max and when rendering in both programs

I am not an Inventor user, but I do use several other 3D software and it is not strange that each render engine will produce different colors, even under the same 3D software.

One thing to keep in mind is 3d Max work in Linear space not sure if Invertor is the same or uses other gamma value.

you could try using textures instead of shader colors.

But anyways you'll have to adjust to keep similarity.

Hi @Anonymous

Thanks for bringing your question to the forums! From my understanding, the best Material Library to use is the Autodesk Material Library when exporting files from Inventor meant for 3ds Max. Here is a more thorough article on Material Libraries.

Custom material libraries made in Inventor don't import into 3ds Max currently.

I hope this helps answer your question!

@Anonymous

I wanted to reach out again and pass along an article I just wrote on the subject of importing materials from Inventor into 3ds Max.

In Inventor

  1. Right-click the Material or Appearance Libraries node
  2. Click Add Library and navigate to the Autodesk material library
  3. Assigned materials from this library will seamlessly import into 3ds Max

In 3ds Max

  1. Import the Inventor model by navigating to File > Import > Import
  2. Select the Inventor file (.ipt filetype)
  3. Under the import settings material Options, make sure that [Import Inventor Materials] is checked

I hope this helps, and let me know if any of these steps are unclear 😄
