I want to render a model with a few different background images. I created a mental ray environment map material for each image, then linked the material to the rendered background map. It always works great the first time, but if I switch from background 1 to 2 and then back to 1, my rendered background is always really distorted, usually like it's been zoomed in. Recreating the material and reloading it is simple, but it ruins the point of creating a material if I have to recreate it every time I want to use it. Any suggestions?

I'll venture a guess that you are initially setting the images to map as Screen, but they are getting changed to something like Spherical which would make them appear zoomed in. I recall having the opposite issue many years ago with mental ray.
As to a fix...I don't exactly know. But the next time it happens, open the problematic map in the material editor and see what kind of mapping it is using. It may just need to be set back to Screen.
