the setting file is at the root of Max install : d3dgfx.ini
When installed in Program Files, default install path, the file cannot be overwritten (Windows rules).
To be able to save the settings:
Either start Max as Administrator (Should have the Write permission to the file) edit setting, exit Max. >>> saved
Or copy the d3dgfx file outside Program Files, modify it in a text editor. Copy back into Program Files. (still need Admin permission).
