Need help recompiling old plugin to work in 3ds Max 2021

Title says it all. I really need this old plugin for 3ds Max 8 to work in 3ds Max 2021, or I won't be able to continue with a massive project I have in the works. I'd be willing to pay anyone willing to rebuild this plugin to work with Max 2021 for me, I really need this plugin- it is the only one like it, and its developer is no longer available for contact, and has not updated it since its creation. Attached is a link to the plugin.

 

I really appreciate your help!

First, you need to explain what the problem is, why these scripts do not work and how we can reproduce them not working properly.

As I can see, the scripts are quite general in syntax and should not depend on the MAX version. So, there is something in your current setup (2021) that makes everything unworkable or makes the scripts not work as expected, unlike the previous working version.

 

Second, you need to prepare a MAX scene where we will check for issues and debug the process ...

And third...
everything can be very simple, will not need a real payment, and a bottle of good Whiskey will be enough 😉

I have no programming experience or knowledge, its not my focus of expertise. I'd very much like someone to look at the code for this script and update it to work with modern software, if possible.

I said above that I don't see anything related to the MAX version in scripts that might crash from older versions to the latest (2021 for example). 

 

If you get error messages, take screenshots, copy / paste as text... in a word, show it somehow.

To make it work correctly I need "W40kData-Whm-High.sga (W40K) and/or WXPData-Whm-High.sga (WXP)"

I see that the author never responded back to you with the file.

I would much appreciate if you could help reprogramming it, or if you just pinpoint the issue so I'll be able to do it myself.

I'm busy at the moment with the TAngra multi-physics engine, but if I find some time, I'll check if I can create a loader for this type of file. What software do you use for it?

Seems those are some kind of moddingtools for Warhammer 40K

there's a newer version (Santos Tools 2 )  out for this, have you tried those ? I guess they do not work ?

Hi, thanks for your reply.

 

There are several games, like Warhammer 1 and 2, and each has its tools. The "Santos tools 1" is used for the first game exclusively, and works fine on max versions 2006, -7, -8. Unfortunately, no further versions are supported. 

 

The problem is that compared to new 3ds max studio versions, the 2008 version seems rather limited in its possibilities. 

The bypass is to use the newest version for modelling only, then port the model back to the 2008 version to export the model into the game. 

However, it's inconvenient and would be nice to have one version of the 3ds max studio for both purposes.

Hi,

Thank you for your response.

The plugin is compatible with 3ds max 2008 x32

It's used to import and export model files from Warhammer 40000 Down of War: Winter Assault/Dark Crusade/Soulstorm games.

As one of the commeters mentioned above: here's a link where the use of the plugin is described.

I have all the necessary SDK files for the game, so if something about the SDK setup is unclear I can help with that.

The plugin is outdated, and i was so busy, especially with all the new UI and SDK changes.  If I find time, I will take a look at it.
