Import objects from Maya - layers problem

Hi,

 

I've got a big file with a complicated hierarchy and display layer structure in Maya. When I import it into 3dsmax, the hierarchy is still there, but all objects go into the 0 - default layer! What's even weirder is that the original layers are still imported, yet there are no objects in them. It's the same if I use Send to max or export-import through fbx. What can be causing it? How to make objects migrate inside their layers?

one node in MAX is usually presented in Maya as two nodes - geometry and transform. check what nodes are in Maya layers. If they are geometry in max they will be collapsed and merged with their transforms. 

 

you can solve the problem by putting transform nodes in the same layers as their geometry nodes in Maya

Thanks a lot Denis! Apparently the transform nodes were assigned to layers in Maya, but geometry was not! When I assigned them to the layers, it all started working.

in maya it calls DAG node... the dag node has to be in the layer
