Changing the length of CAT bones via script

Hi

I'm trying to match a CAT rig to a std bone rig but I am having issues with the bone lengths.

For example if you select an Arm or Leg bone on a CAT rig with a units ratio of 1 in setup mode and try

$.length = 10

The bone will appear to have scaled in the viewport but the length value won't have changed in the modifier panel. As soon as you move that bone it will revert to it's original length.

How do I set this length permanently?

Cheers

Shot in the dark but to don't think the bone length matters. All you need is the bone pivot. You can have 1x1 squares as cat bones throughout your rig and it would operate the same.

HI sgiovanni

The length of bones in a CAT rig do matter (as opposed to std max bones). I've found you can set much of what is required using their transforms.

There's a little more information on this on another post: https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/3ds-max-animation-and-rigging/set-orientation-of-cat-bone-via-maxscri...

Cheers

I was rigging a character when I replied to the post. Cat bones length don't matter, all
My bones are
Set to length .4 Width .4 and height .4
I was being sarcastic when I said "...shot in the dark...".

I have my bones set that way because I create a rig over characters generated in another program and I want less. Litter on screen
