3d Studio Max Right Click Interface same as Maya

I am a pretty firm Max user, I have dabbled in other packages, although through reading forums etc, always found that Maya users struggle going to Max, although Max users ease across to Maya (BIG generalization- no flame wars please). One thing having tried Maya, I have found the Right click interface to be a massive help as a pose to my native Max one, and would like to create something similar in Max for Maya users, rather than the existing boxy two column one. I am sure this would save loads of time for Max users, without having to switch apps for this quick time saving tool.

I have very basic scripting experience, pratically none, from the first year of a degree, and am a little bemused where to start. I have looked online and this tool does not currently exist - suprisingly! and the maxscript help assumes some level of previous experience, being mid way through my third year of a Max degree, I am quite busy, but realise the massive benefits this would bring, plus Maxscript is something I have little experience in and think it could be fun to pick up and run with. Previously I created a floater that would control the cust attirbutes for a created character, so this is a big leap, having got the trial version of max 2008, the maxscript help dsoes have some info on creating differnent types of right click menu.

Can anyone help me with this mini pet project or guide me to some really good resources to start working from.

Muchos appreciated,

Thanks guys and gals

This has been a wish list item of 3ds Max for years...

I don't think you'll be able to get the functionally you are looking for with just the MaxScript. You would most likely have to create interface controls in C++ via the 3dsMax SDK and then link them into the tools of max, which are a mix of MaxScript and C++.

It's quite an endeavor, but it would make you famous in the 3dsMax / Maya Community... 🙂

Good luck...
