why does this not work

hello all,

I have made this sleeve and i need to have a wire flying in and going in the groove i want to create.

but thats the problem.

i made a coil, brought a cylinder to clear the path and a subtract boolean to clear it. but it does not work... Why???

I spent the last two hours trying to figure it out but online and on the forums there is no awnser... someone any reccomendations?

It's likely that one or both of the objects are not manifold. Have you run 'STL Check' on them? Do that, fix the errors and I bet they will boolean subtract.

I attached an image of what I think you are trying to do. Both objects had no errors and the boolean worked as expected.

You don't mention which Max version. Max 2024 has boolean operations that are more successful with meshes that have a few errors.
