units size scale problem FFD vs Object Properties

3DS Max 2014.

Refer to attached metric file (metre units).

Attached file contains a single object.

Object Properties shows the object as being:

X:2.4m, Y:5.2m, Z:2.9m

Modifier: FFD 2x2x2 shows bounding box to be:

(Control Points)

X:-0.003, Y:-0.008, Z:0.0

X:0.003, Y:0.008, Z:0.009

When a cube is created, say 2 x 2 x 2 metres it is huge! FFD appears to be the correct size.

How can I fix the object? So that FFD Control Points and Object Property size match.

Thx,

Kevin.

Nope - it's the other way around. If you create a 2M cube then that is the correct size. Your model has been scaled (at the object level) which is why the cube looks enourmous when in fact it's the model which is tiny. When created an object has a scale of 100 (in all 3 axes) - yours is .35. This is bad practice - you shouldn't scale things at the object level as it affect too many things adversly. Materials, animation, simulations - they will all suffer as a result.

Thx Steve. Please let me know how to correct the size .. or set the size as needed.

This time I attached the original file (almost original, had to Pro-optimise to attach)

Scale is 1.

Object Properties size is incorrect (3 times too big, error caused by incorrect unit handling).

Z size should be about 3 metres.

Checking with FFD 2 x 2 x 2 .. provides:

XYZ: -0.037,-0.086, -0.02

XYZ: 0.037, 0.087, 0.078

This proves true as adding true size object (like 2 metre cube) shows that the vehicle size is incorrect.

Is it possible to resize the object correctly from here (Z size: about 3m)?

How?

Thx again.

Kevin.

I managed to correct the control points and correct the real size (attached).

But ... Object Properties reports incorrectly (100 x too big).

: (

almost there..

Command Panel > Utilities (tab) > Reset XForm. You may need to click More and select it from the list. In the same place is a Rescale World Units utility - if you need to rescale objects that is often a better bet than having to use modifiers to do it.
