OpenFlight Export Results in Corrupted Materials

Anonymous
Not applicable

If I generate a simple cylinder and apply a standard material with a single bitmap map as the diffuse color, export as .FLT with default options, and re-import, my material looks "muted". I noticed that prior to exporting my model, in the slate material editor, the diffuse color "amount" in the "Maps" parameter list is at 100, but after exporting and re-importing it is set to 50.

after exportafter exportbefore exportbefore export

Is this an issue with the 3dsMax .FLT exporter? Did I do something wrong? Is there a workaround for this issue?

Thanks!

I can reproduce this issue. I reported this problem to our developer team. But I don't know why and how to deal with it.

Hi @Anonymous

I really appreciate you coming to the forums and posting regarding this issue!  I did some testing and it looks like using an Arnold Standard Surface material does not have this issue when exporting.

We have logged this issue in our internal database, and I can keep you updated on the progress of a potential resolution to this here on the forums.

In the meantime, if the Arnold material doesn't work for your situation, can you tell me a little more about your project so we can collaborate on an option that works for you?

(feel free to respond either here, or the email I just sent you. I wanted to post here for all the other folks that may see this conversation :D)

Looking forward to speaking with you further!

@tony.su thanks for logging that, I found the BSPR!

The team looked into it further, and it seems this is due to how the .flt file type reads color data. If we change the base color of the material to white, then the material exported won't have an issue. This setting can be found within the basic parameters of the physical material.

Let me know if you have any other questions 😄
