New User - Confused.. can not weld verts?

Hi there....

I'm having a strange mechanical problem in max 2017, I am sure it is just a misunderstanding in how Max functions...

I made a object, I edited it a little as a "edit poly". Then I selected the entire object as an "element" and clone moved it (with shift)... then, still in edit polly/element selected the new element created and with vertex snap on moved it so the connecting verts should be directly on top of each other... Now I can not seam to WELD those verts. If I click "weld" nothing happens, if I click the wold dialogue box and even set it to huge numbers there is no change in the vertex count and even target weld will not work.

I did a similar test, but instead of cloning the element in edit poly I cloned a entire new object then in the original edit poly used "attach".... Same results.

Can anyone explain what is going?

Object - Edit Poly

Object - Clone Element.. same problem with attaching a new object

With the entire new element selected, I use 3d-Vert-Snap to align it to the vert of the other element.

I drag a box and select the two (?) verts on top of each other and select the WELD option... even set to HUGE values, there is no vert count change

I drag back 1 of the verts to ensure they are over lapped and not connecting, then try to use WLED VERT and while I can select either vert, the target will not allow me to select the vert on the other element.

Thanks for your time!

Hi,

Remove the opposing faces and then attach and weld. You don't need or want those faces at this point anyway. 😉

Hello @Anonymous and welcome to the community,

I just wanted to follow up here, any progress on this issue?  @Daf is correct here that when welding verts from two separate elements, it's necessary to delete those inner faces first.  Did that work out for you?

Best Regards,
