need help with viking helmet tutorial

Hi, I'm new to 3ds max and I'm trying to follow the viking helmet modeling tutorial. However, when I reach the step of mesh smooth, what I get is different from the tutorial. The bottom of the object is not flat. Can someone please tell me what is wrong? Thanks.

That looks like a solid object - a helmet isn't solid, so remove the poly(s) on the bottom.
Please try and post sensible sized images - those are way too small to be of much use as no real detail can be seen. Also, a link to the tutorial (if it is not a "paid for" one) would be useful - we have no idea how you got to that position so can only guess at what is wrong.

Thank you Steve for your reply. The tutorial is from Autodesk's website:
http://docs.autodesk.com/3DSMAX/15/ENU/3ds-Max-Tutorials/index.html

I followed each step in the tutorial but couldn't get a flat bottom after applying msmooth.

I used 3ds Max 2013 student edition.

I try to upload the pictures again.

This is what it looks like before applying msmooth:

And this is after:

And in the tutorial, it looks like:

"Refine the Shape" Step 3. You failed to remove the lower section of the sphere.
Thanks for the extra details and images - much easier to see the problem 😉

That's the idea 😉

Make sure you read tutorials carefully and be very careful not to miss a step. If in doubt start over - those early tutorials are not too long so you don't lose much time by redoing them.
