modeling tool

i want design a sword with some carvings on its handle the problem is i dont want to use extrude tool bcz i dont wanna create a depression or an increase i just want to it to be on the handle without changing the level is there anyway other than changing color of polygons?

Hi,

 

You could add the carving as an image during the material stage of the project.:)

Once you have the shape you want you should be able to into the material editor and select the type of material you want it to be.
