How to do a UV Unwrap of a model with lots of instances?

Anonymous
Not applicable

I am trying to do the UV Unwrap of a stadium but I keep losing whatever seems I made, because I feel like changing something in the model.

I basically have the pitch and a portion of a fan stand that I'm going to duplicate all around the stadium.

What should be the workflow so that I don't need to do a UV Unwrap of EVERY duplicate of the fan stand?

Should I do the UV Unwrap of ONE stand, THEN duplicate the stand as an instance all around the stadium?

Or should I duplicate the stand all around the stadium, THEN do a UV Unwrap?

Any suggestions about do's and don'ts UV Unwrap? What are the things I should not do, to avoid losing my UV Unwrap?

Should I do it at the very end of the modelling, when I'm sure I won't change anything?

You will save yourself a lot of UVing by modeling/refining/finalizing the stand ... then UVing and instancing around the stadium. If the time comes and you need to make changes  -  you can modify any one of the instances and the changes will propagate through the rest. Be sure and save often and incrementally. 😉

Hope this is helpful - keep checking as there may be more/better suggestions coming!
