How make hotkey for Remove Edge with Vertices how i can change F1 button hotkey?

I tried to assign hotkeys to the Remove Edge (poly), Remove commands, but nothing happens, the edges are removed and the vertices are not deleted.

I know that i can press the Ctr + Remove button, or Ctrl + Backspace hotkey .. but I want another hotkey so that it can be conveniently pressed with one hand, like Ctrl+T. Who ever came up with such a hotkey like Ctrl+Backspace - it must be pressed with both hands, which is very inconvenient.

And since I'm talking about hotkeys, please tell me how to change the button F1? I need F1 - Perspective, F2-Top View, F3-Side View..
I do not need help on the hotkey, I can open the help menu for this.
And I need F1 buttion, because the keys are not enough for all commands. I can not change it.

Hi @Anonymous;

You can change or assign any key combination to any command in 3ds Max, but unfortunately, not F1 (unless you edit some system files of 3ds max)

-Go to Customize > Customize User Interface > Keyboard

-Find and click on the command you'd like to change or assign your hotkey

-Click on the Hotkey input bar at the right side of the Customize User Interface dialogue box

-You can now press your keyboard buttons for your hotkey. If you decide your hotkey to be permanent, click on Assign  button.

Regards;

Hi Guys!

I have the same issue: I want to replace the Ctrl+Backspace combination with another hotkey. And I cannot seem to do it. I do generally know how to set hotkeys, very much like the answer to this thread posts. My problem is a different one:

I cannot seem to find the exact command which is performed on Ctrl+Backspace in the command list.

Which one is it? What is it called, so I can find it in the list and assign the shortcut?

Anyone knows?

Hi,

It's called Remove(Poly),

I created a custom shortcut for it Ctrl+F2

Just follow the picture

It does not work for me. Removes edges, vertices remain.

I'm using 3dsmax 2017 and it works fine,

I attached two images of an edge before and after deleting it,

And you can see the clean edges with no vertices as leftovers

I prefer, first, to create a Box with few height segments, convert it to poly,

And try it. Maybe something in your mesh is preventing it from working,

Things like vertices that are not welded, or anything else, it's difficult to know from the image alone.

I'm doing the right thing, I'm converting the plane into poly and the same as you.

Now i'm curious to see the file you're working on,

I don't believe things changed that much from max 2017 to max 2018, but who knows!

If you like attach the file (save as max 2017) so i can try this

hey, thats interesting.

So first, thanks Miled. I am half way there: The command is the right one and my shortcut removes edgeloops WITH the vertecies. but ONLY as long as the Keyboard Shortcut Override Toggle is deactivated.

So, Miled. Bonus question: 😉  Would you happen to know how I get the shortcut to work while the Override Toggle is ON? I was thinking that I might have to place a respective shortcut somewhere in the other menu contexts - but didn't have any luck so far.

Thx for your interest and your help anyway!

Cheers!

Does not help.
It helps only by pressing the button "Remove" with the Сtrl button. Just this.

I made this Screencast to clear some confusion regarding the create of

A shortcut for the edge remove. Partially it was my fault, since the solution i posted works on Editable Poly objects

And not Edit Poly modifiers. In this video i will also explain how the state of

the Keyboard Shortcut Override Toggle(On or OFF) can affect the shortcuts functioning.

And how this Toggle works in General.

! ! !Smiley LOL! ! !

Awesome!

At least for me you clarified my last mistakes. xD  By now I have the contextual menus littered with multiple conflicting shortcuts, so this is precisely why it is not working for me (yet). I thought the menu hieararchy  worked the other way: Main UI wins over the others. BUT. Now I know better, thanks to you!

Thanks for taking the time to even make the screencast! ❤️ Kudos from me.

Cheers!

Chris

I found the cause of the problem. I wanted to do a Shift + C hotkey, and it did not work. I did Ctrl+F2, Ctrl+C and it works.
I checked nowhere else found another shortening of Ctrl+C
The key is not pressed, I never press it.
The question remains why it does not work to make Shift+C

.jpg - rename .kbdx (cannot attach kbdx files)

Hello.

Shift +C hides and unhides the camera objects in viewports by default. That
might be the issue.

i rename all hotkeys. Shift+C only for remove edge

therefore it is not clear why this is.
You can download my hotkeys and see

It seems like the key to the shortcut is it has to contain Ctrl and then it will work (remove the vertices as well).

I'm in the same boat and it is Very annoying that there seems to be no way to bind this to a single key anymore. I used to be able to do this in an older version of Max.

Taking out something that was possible before is an omission on the devs part. The point is to make things easier with each iteration and this is the opposite.
