Hi ;
I am beginner on 3ds max. I created a simple box and a simple cylinder in the center of it and use proboolean to subtract cylinder from the box. I did it successfully but when I am done I need to convert proBoolean object to an editable poly . When I convert it I have an extra edge on the top and bottom surfaces of the box . ( shown in red in the picture below ) . How can I get rid of this ? So I can do extrude and other modifiers on the top surface.
Have you had problems with use of modifiers on the top surface? Depending on your future intention for this model, I'd be expecting you to need to add edges, not remove them. Internally edge-less polygons are not something people seek. Try your work with the connecting edge present. Show the forum problems that may arise.
If you really want to remove this edge, you can do so with "control-remove", meaning you click the remove button on the edit poly parameter options, while holding down control. I wouldn't be surprised if max replaces it for you, however.
Thank you but it doesn't work. would you see the attached file please .
Here is your scene back with the top polygon beveled, extruded, and inset. The edge you dislike had nothing to do with any of these operations. HOWEVER, the modifier was not available to be placed on the stack. Each operation was enacted via the parameter tools present in the edit poly panel or the graphite tool bar.
Since that's a common way I work, I never noticed the modifiers being grayed out.
No way this is caused by the edge you highlighted. It is odd, however, perhaps AJ can straighten us out over why modifiers seem unavailable for placing over top of an edit poly modifier.
hi i checked your model i extruded that it is working fine what is problem with you facing on that ...thanks
Hi m_boluki,
In 3ds max when you do the boolean of two solids defenitely the subracted surface will have the extra edge.
At times its visible or else you can find it in edge selection in edit poly mode on to the booleaned surface.
The problem is the extra edge will create a distorted polygon / improper smoothing while chamfering .
To get rid of it do refer the link I've which got the solution for your problem.

Hope it'll be useful for you.
Thanks and regs,
