I am trying to move some vertices and I noticed that the gizmo is not conforming to the real XYZ axis, as if each vertex has its own xyz axis. This was not the case when I first opened 3ds Max, I may have happened to click/change an option/setting.
Looks like you have the coordinate system set to " Local " or "Local Aligned". Try "Parent" or "World" or "View" if you want the gizmo axis to be aligned differently with your vertex selection. There is no single one "Real" XYZ axis. It is entirely dependent on the Coordinate system you select. It is worth playing around with the different options to get a feel for how it affects the Gizmo axes when you have selections at the sub-object and object level.
