File is gone

I've been working on the file for the whole semester, and today I've been continuing the work when my laptop died. When I opened the laptop the file was gone, but I managed to find it in the backup folder. I continued working on the file and saving, and then opened a different file to make some adjustments. When I went back to open the backup file which was supposed to be my main working file, it opened for me the 2nd file that I recently worked on. In the backup folder I have only 3 backup files, and all of them are for the 2nd file that I've opened for minor modifications. Please, does anyone know how can I bring back my work, because there is only one week left for the submission and there is no time for me to re-do the work I've been doing throughout the whole semester!

Hi,

Maybe you can try installing a data recovery program that lets you undelete deleted files,

here is a free software that does this: https://www.ccleaner.com/recuva/builds

Before using the software:

Even if it sounds a stupid question, but did you try looking in the Recycle Bin?

Also, try enabling Show Hidden files and folders from the control panel,

Maybe, for some reason, the file became hidden.
