Export Liquid Cached mesh?

So I've created a simple liquid simulation and I want to export the cache mesh, but can't seem to find a way to do this. Is it possible to collapse this down into an editable mesh somehow? It takes so long to load the cache, I'm hesitant to try any experimenting, and google isn't bringing up any useful answers.

Thanks!

Have you tried exporting it as an Alembic file?

I can't see an option anywhere to export the liquid mesh. I'll take any format that's actually a mesh and is compatible with max 😛

What did you use to simulate the liquid? Yes, alembic is supported by Max and you can export it from Max as well.

The 3ds Max Liquid object in Max 2018 +

I'm looking for a way to export the cached mesh, but inside the Simulation View, there's no export option. As soon as I close Max down, the liquid ceases to exist until I load the cache again, so I didn't think a regular export would work. I figured I need to somehow convert the liquid mesh into a editable mesh before I can export. Maybe I'm wrong?

That was my mistake. For anyone else who has a similar issue. just exporting the liquid to FBX at the frame you want, will convert it to an editable mesh, and you're good to go.

Accepted solution

Hi,

In the display setting tab of the Simulation View solver window, change the Liquid Settings Display Type to 'Bifrost Cache Mesh'.
After a few seconds the display will regenerate to show the liquid mesh. Then select it, right-click and convert to editable mesh/poly. You can now export or save selected as normal. Afterwards, you can go to edit -> undo to return the liquid to its prior animated state.
