Door not cutting through wall

Hi

I encountered a weird problem this morning when a couple of my door objects did not cut through the wall. After searching the internet, i thought it would pay to ask it in here than wasting any more time.

Simple question would be why is it doing this? What am i doing wrong?

I have created a few more doors in the same scene file, same type of door, created the same way, moved around to fit in the right position, they are all good but not the ones in question.

Photo and model attached.

Thanks

Hi,

The Door object only works with the Wall object,

The Wall object exists in the: Create Panel - AEC Extended - Wall,

Obviously, i'm assuming you did all the right steps, you used it with an ordinary geometry, this is why it failed

Note: i have 3DS Max 2015 so i couldn't open your file,

In case i was wrong in my assumption, try saving the file in Max 2015, and i'll check it for you.

Note: In case you really used the Wall object, for the Door object to cut through, you need to activate the Edge/Segment snapping,

And make sure, while dragging the mouse to create the width and the depth, that it's snapping to the edges.

Hi Miled

I do not know what went wrong. I was using the right way i think. The object is definitely a wall object. I might be snapping it to something else at the time of creation.

I have now been able to get it to work.

The solution i think is that it need to be snapped to both the edge of wall at the time of creation. It could be moved around afterwards and that does not affect the anchoring to wall.

Thanks

It's true that you need to get it right from the beginning, by snapping at both wall edges,

But, after that, if for some reason your door shifted away from the wall, you can still move it back and the

Wall's opening will be restored. You don't need to create a new one.

For people who might stumble on this subject:

if for no reason your doors or windows don't cut trought your wall, you should check the hierarchy of your objects..your wall should control all your AEC for them to interac with it.

Not sure what you mean the walls should control the doors...I have walls and doors on seperate layers and most of teh doors are cutting correctly but a few are not. In my hiearchy the wall layer is above the door layer

Hi! By control I meant the hierachy (I didnt know how to say it with 1 word). As for the reason you have some doors not cutting through, is the depth higher than the width of the wall? Do they have the same orientation?(0°-90°)
