Buttons and Dialogue menu's too large

I recently downloaded both 2019 and 2020 version of 3DS Max and both have the same issue. The dialogue menus are way too large in comparison to everything else on screen and aren't effected by any basic changes ive tried. It is currently effecting the bar on the right of the screen as well as any dialogue that pops up, which is stopping me from pressing "Apply" or Cancel" because the boxes are too large. Any help is appreciated, thanks in advance.

Ive linked an image to show one example of the error im encountering hoping it will help.

sorry for the late reply mate, my resolution is set to 3840x2160 and everything else is fine. The only software that im having issues with is 3DS Max as Substance painter, zBrush and Marmoset Toolbag are all fine. I wouldn't mind but I physically cant click on some rollout menu buttons because they are off the bottom of my screen. Cheers for the reply.

It could be a bug have you added the lastest service pack and hotfix? have you tried changing the UI Customize->Custom UI and Defaults Switcher-> And selecting a UI in there. (Basically, resetting) see if that helps? also try reinstalling your VGA card or updating it? if that does not help then @raiden_xavier can chime in he/she is a autodesk empolyee support specialist

Hi @Anonymous,

I hope you are making friends and making cool stuff!

Thanks @irishman_team_kilber for the mention.

I have done as much digging around as I can on 3ds max on 4k screens and this is what I've gathered:

1: Reset the preferences

2: Keep 3ds max and all sub menus on the primary monitor. UI oddities can occur on non-primaries.

3: Drop the resolution to 1080p. Not the point of a 4k monitor i know.

4: Find the right Windows DPI scaling setting

5: Change the 3ds max workspace from default

6: Something called Topaz.

Try a Windows environment Qt variable like:

Check and clear user environment variable:

QT_DEVICE_PIXEL_RATIO   = auto

unticking the bottom left "render" button, as well as ticking "compatibility mode" in preferences.

(this solved the issue in another thread)

Sorry I can't be of more help on this.

Perhaps @hagen.deloss may have seen similar issues in his travels around the forums...

Hope that helps.

Regards,

@Anonymous

I agree with what @raiden_xavier suggests and would add that in some situations, scaling the UI within the Windows settings to 149% (or any scale between 100%-149%) can help in certain situations.

  1. In Windows (any version) go to Control Panel > Appearance and Personalization > Display.
  2. In Customize your Display change the font size of "Change the size of text, apps and other items" to 100%.-149%

I hope this information helps!
