Applying materials to imported autocad solid

Have my legacy autocad 3D solid and 3D faces model in 3dsMax. Having to jump in during trial period to see what I might be able to do.
Want to apply a standing seam zinc sheeting to my roof. I have these material components as attached. I have applied a basic zinc material. I understand I should be able to use a 'box' geometry and a 'tiling' to align and scale the bitmap to my editable polygon. But my polygon is not recognised or I have gone about in the wrong way. Any suggestions or help would be much appreciated

Have you applied a UVW Map Modifier to the AutoCAD solid object?

thanks, no I didnt know. Had a look, but my solids, such as my two opposing roof planes have many challenging forms that do not appear, to me,  to conform to the required geometries. As a novice I am having to work at skilled user level and trip at every move. But again thanks for responding.

The geometry looks fine. Add the UVW Map Modifier to it. You'll need to play with the settings so the material is positioned on the object how you like it.

To apply standing seam zinc sheeting to your roof in 3ds Max, make sure your roof is converted to an Editable Poly. Use a UVW Map modifier with "Box" mapping to align and scale the bitmap texture. Ensure your UVW Map settings are correct for proper alignment. If the polygon isn't recognized, double-check your conversion and modifier application
