Any tips on modeling a 1911 grip?

First off, I'm a beginner so if you wouldn't mind spelling your answer out, that would be great!

I'm modelling off of this reference image: https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/2/26/M1911A1.png

And I'm trying to make the triangle pattern you can see on the grip. I've already made the grip itself, I just need the pattern.

And as I said, I'm a beginner so if this isn't actually needed, let me know!
