3d modeling for film and games

Hello,

I have been using cad software for many years to design for injection molds & tool and die. Given my mechanical and cad experience, I was thinking this may be able to translate to Maya or 3ds max modeling so I can begin to pursue a passion to get involved in film and video games. What I'm hoping for a little guidance on what might be the best place to start. I've read several discussions but I am still a little unsure which is the best to start with. I would like to do things related to robotics mechanical components and environments ancient and modern weapons ect. So if someone could help me make that final decision on where to start it would be appreciated.

start with 3ds max tutorials that come with the program. get a team together that uses 3ds max after effects and photoshop. IMHO making a game is not an easy process a one man band cannot make a game, and you will need a lot of money unless you know people who want to invest in you and your friends for example.

threre are a lot of tutorials out there free like on youtube and subscription based tutorials
