3d Max Tutorial problem

Hi,

I am starting 3d max for the first time. I dont know if this is the correct forum to post beginner's Questions. I have downloaded a tutorial. It says to browse in the \scenes\startup, i cant find any files in the scenes folder. It asks me to look for battlefield_start.max. Can somebody please guide me about some other tutorial or how to get this files? I dont know the basics.

Help > Tutorials. On the left:- 3ds Max Tutorials > Introduction > Where to find Tutorial Files.
At the top of that page is a link to download the necessary files. Download them (if you haven't already), extract them and make a note of the folder to which you extracted them. For example "c:\Users\[your user name]\My Documents\Max 2015 Tutorials".

Load Max > Customise > Configure User Paths. At the top of that dialog is a Project Folder entry with a "..." Browse button, click that, navigate to the folder you extracted the files to, then click OK. When you Open a file you will start in the Scenes folder, so just navigate into startup then battlefield.

Setting the Project Folder is vital - if you don't then you'll get all manner of problems with missing files of various types.

Max 2016 (SP1/EXT1)
Win7Pro x64 (SP1). i5-3570K @ 4.4GHz, 8Gb Ram, DX11.
nVidia GTX760 (2GB) (Driver 430.86).

What version of Max are you using? The following link is for 2015 - click the link then change the version number (in your browser's address bar) for the appropriate version. Note that it only goes back to 2011, so for versions prior to that you might be out of luck.

Accepted solution

That's not the right file. What you have there is a local copy of the tutorials themselves - the "web pages" if you like - which you can view locally without needing an internet connection. Go back to the page you got that from and scroll down - you need the "3ds Max 2011 Supplementary Files (zip - 162758Kb)"

Max 2016 (SP1/EXT1)
Win7Pro x64 (SP1). i5-3570K @ 4.4GHz, 8Gb Ram, DX11.
nVidia GTX760 (2GB) (Driver 430.86).
