Transfer normals tool?

Hi all,

I would like to know if there is any default option in 3ds max that transfers the normals from one mesh to another (something similar to transfer attributes in Maya). It is a tool that is used a lot to make hair, plants and low poly trees for avoiding weird shadows or obvious flat shapes-cards look.

I'm using a script right now for max to do this (noors normal thief), but I find it weird not having this tool implemented by default, and maybe its is somewhere but I do not know where to find it in the menus.
Somebody could help me, please?

Thanks.

Hi @Anonymous,

Hope the community is making you feel welcome.

Sounds like you're after the projection modifier in 3ds max with a bit of Render to texture maybe? Lots of existing info, videos, tutorials, etc out there if you are interested.

Hope that helps?

Look forward to hearing from you.

This answer isn't what he was asking for. It is also something that I am asking about now. https://80.lv/articles/creating-stylized-leaves-in-maya/

https://80.lv/articles/stylized-nature-vegetation-animation-shaders/

It is to transfer the normal data from like a sphere onto a collection of planes to get the outward facing normal directions from the sphere to project onto an attached set of grids.

The only option I've seen so far in Max is: Noors http://www.scriptspot.com/3ds-max/scripts/noors-normal-thief

This is something that should be in 3DS Max somewhere because it exists in Maya and Blender.

Pls let me know if this is buried somewhere and if not when it is being planned on being integrated into 3DS Max's Tool set.

Thank you for your solution @Anonymous . I have been using this plugin for a while, but was looking for a native solution in 3ds max. Another solution I found is to move my models to Maya or blender to do this, but it is not very efficient to be jumping from one software to another =_=.

I wish it get implementes at some point in 3ds max.
