slice or divide objects along direction

Hi,

Newbie question. I imported some geometry from Revit Structures and want to slice the members along its length. Is there an easy way to slice objects along a direction and specify how many slices i want along the length of the member?

first image is from revit and second one is what i' trying to achieve.
