Scatter - Hide Distribution Object not working?

Hi All,

I am trying to make a sphere packed with spheres, and scatter - volume seemed like a good way to do it.

I made one 100 radius geosphere and a 5 radius geosphere, scattered onto the 100 radius geosphere. Then I'm trying to hide the 100 radius geosphere, so I checked the "Hide Distribution Object". However, this only turned the 100 radius geosphere grey:

And it also shows up in renders:

Does anyone know how to really delete/hide the distribution object?

Many thanks in advance.

P.S. Does anyone know how to make the scattered objects not overlap/join with each other?

This confused me the first time I encountered it as well.  Scatter makes a duplicate of the distribution object so when you check "hide the distribution object" that Scatter-made distribution object is hidden, but the original (in your case the original 100 radius geosphere) is still there and that is what you are still seeing.  You can delete or hide the original 100 radius geosphere from Scene Explorer.
