Rotate around view not object?

Hello, new user here that needs a little help please.

I'm trying to pick polygons that are inside of a building that I'm making. When I alt-mmb the view rotates around but I  can't see what I'm doing because the view ends up in the wall or outside of the model. I have used Z and that zoomed in but I still get the same as above. Is it possible to rotate around the viewing point and not around an object or other selected objects?

I've used unreal editor many years ago and could get into any space with ease, I was hoping for something similar for 3ds max.

Thanks.

Maybe if you change  to "orbit  point of interest option" you can obtain want to need...

Good luck.

Thank you Richard, I did try that but didn't feel as if I was turning (rotating) in a single spot in space. I'll check it out again today because last time I tried the unit scale was wrong on my model and I have since created a new file and merged my model to it (maybe that was causing problems). I also didn't know about the FOV setting in my last post, which has made working in tight spaces much easier. I'll get used to it eventually.

Thanks again.
