Problem with OBJ Export deleting stray vertex?

I have run into an issue with exporting OBJ from 3DSMax. Unfortunately I am unable to use any other format as it is a limitation of the game engine I have been given.

Basically for reasons I will not go into I need the mesh to always be taller then it is wide, this is a requirement of the engine. My original idea was to just make the mesh as I wanted and then simply clone a single vertex up above it increasing the "tallness" of the mesh, but not adding pollys and it basically being invisible when I load the mesh in the engine.

The problem is that when I export max is always deleting this stray vertex.

  • If you look at the screen shots I have attacked you can see the mesh has teh stray vertex cloned to a "element" in the mesh.
  • I then export and have tried a lot of different sets.. this was the last one I used.. note that "optimise vertex" is turned off.
  • The 3rd shot is just importing the exported mesh back into Max.. as you can see the stray vertex is no longer in the file.

How would I go about doing this and stopping max from deleting this stray vertex on export?

Thanks!

You could try making a plane above the model, and attach the plane to the model after which you can scale the plane down all the way to zero, or a number slightly above zero (whatever that works). That should solve the issue.
