Here's some basic settings to make the geometry. start with a geosphere then add the edit poly modifier and select polygon selection mode. find a pentagon, then select the 5 polygons that make up that shape and set a different ID# for it. Along each edge of that pentagon, you will see groups of 6 polygons that form a hexagon. Select these and give them a different ID#. Repeat until the whole ball is covered... It may not be specific to this type of ball, but it will give you a foundation to start with.
I wanted to add an additional image to support how you use the different IDs. The reason you want to use a geosphere is because each surface that makes up the form are equal sizes and the texture won't have to deform as it reaches the poles. If you know how to texture bake, this simple map will help you create your diffuse map by baking this detail onto a similar object which has a different layout like in the second picture.

Actually, your method didn't give me exactly what I wanted, so I made the ball using a Hedra and spherify modifier.
