Missing external file that I have never had in the scene

From some point my scene started notifying that it's missing some external file. Weird that I did not add anything to the scene (textures, models, materials, etc). All I did was just editing an animation of an existing object. And this object is clean, no any 3rd party stuff in it, its mapping is clean and made by me. So now it needs some external file, its name is also weird, the name doesn't give a clue where it belongs, it's just a few letters and a number, I don't name things like that.

And EVEN IF I HAD this file in my scene somehow, added it somehow or I don't know... even then, I didn't delete anything from the scene, didn't even edit materials and stuff, so even if this file was in the scene, why isn't it found now?

I need a tool to find which material wants this file and remove this texture from the material. I tried two scripts: "lost_textures" and "MissingTextures_31".

did you not name the material slots or slates where you put the textures? that is the first rule of thumb when adding the materials IMHO,

the only reason why the file is missing unless you or someone removed it from the folder, or deleted it check your recycle bin, and see if the texutre is there, if so just restore it to that folder, if someone has deleted the bin then there is nothing you can do unless you saved it onto a dvd, or USB.

if you still get the same messages then use the Configure User Paths https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/3ds-max/learn-explore/caas/CloudHelp/cloudhelp/2016/ENU/3DSMa... but this link will be unless if you cannot find the texture and it's been deleted from the recycle bin there is no way to get it back

I am not sure if doing a system restore on your windows os will do any good and even if you do, do that then you will lose your updated and you will have update everything again!

I mean, I'm not trying to restore the texture, it's just weird that it needs anything I didn't even add or delete from the scene. The question is how to find out which material wants this texture and how to remove this link from the material.

we don't know because we never model or textured the model unless you named the materials as i said.

that link i gave you is how to setup a material i misread your question,

you would get better answer if you put this in the texturing community and not in the modeling community https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/3ds-max-shading-lighting-and/bd-p/area-b30

Thanks. I was thinking where to ask this question and I didn't know that Rendering is about textures too.
