Is it possible to use vector objects as a texture?

Hello. The topic title might be a bit misleading, but I just don't know how to ask "properly".

The idea is as follows. Say I have GeoSphere, and say I have a little "star", which I created by extruding the 2D spline.

I want to "texture" the geosphere with these "stars", that means, distributing them along the surface of geosphere evenly, with proper deformation, so they wrap the surface correctly.  Just like football ball, but with smaller, and more dense "stars".

I know that this can be done thru bitmap texturing, but I want these stars to be arranged around the geosphere in vector format, for further use.

Is this possible?

any reason why you need to that or perhaps any reference image you want to achieve?

Quite simple. To make complex objects with fine texture, hard to achieve in another way.
