Hey I've got an issue with setting up a reference image, for some reason it's not coming up on the viewport? I'm assigning it in the material editor and whatnot, any ideas what I'm doing wrong?Reference image help 2.jpgReference image help.jpg

what are you modeling, if you are modeling something like a car for example then you need to have 3 different images in different viewports. top view of the car left view of the car and the front view of the car the P. view have to be free.

It sounds like you may have an issue with the tiling of the bitmap.  You can control tiling either by adjusting parameters for the material or the mapping parameters of the object.

I generally make sure Real-World Map Size in unchecked and that Generate Mapping Coords for the plane is checked.

BTW, a red slash in the header of a material in the slate editor indicates that Show SHaded Material in View is active. Here it is active for material #25 but not for material #26.

I'll try this out, I think I did this and it didn't work.

This is what I'm getting for having real world unchecked, is the plane not big enough to display the bitmap or what?

The plane must match the image aspect ratio (proportions of the width to height)

Steps:

  1. Deactivate on the plane the Real-World Map Size (Command Panel)
  2. Add the UVW Map modifier and deactivate the Real-World Map Size
  3. In the Alignment tab select the Bitmap Fit => select the same image
  4. In UVW Map under the Parameters/Mapping, copy the Length value
  5. In the stack select the Plane and paste the value into its length
  6. Repeat the same steps for the width.

The image doesn't specify the length or width only resolution, is there a way for me to get those dimensions?

I also might add the image isn't even appearing on the plane when I follow those steps either, all I see is an outline.

If you added a UVW Map modifier and then clicked Fit you don't have to worry about the image size or aspect ratio. Verify that the material has been assigned to the object, that Show Shaded Material in Viewport is checked (as stated in an earlier post). You might also want to view the otherside of the plane as you may be viewing the plane's back side!

I am trying to explain on my attached image, why you should use the Bitmap Fit, and where you can find your image dimensions.
