I'm having problems to set up Image Reference in Material Editor in 3DS Max 2017

Hi guys,

I'm new to 3DS Max. I was watching a pluralsight video. The instructor had no problem setting up his reference image. But when I do the exact same steps I don't get the same result.

Here is a screenshot.

And here is what I see when I zoom in very close on the object.

Thanks for your help

add a uv map modifier and select match bitmap, you may need to scale it or set it to fit bitmap

First of all set up the plane to be the same resolution as your image. Then drag your material onto the plane. Go to the modifier list and add a UVW map. Make sure the U V and w tile are all set to 1.0. Then choose 'bitmap fit' and select your image.

Thanks mit and ezna....

After I added the UVW Map, thing remained the same until I unchecked "Real-World Map Size"

Thanks a lot

something is wrong then, maybe you have real world map size also checked in the bitmap loader option as well, either way its ok, whatever work is ok

Thanks mit.

Of course, whatever works in code.

But now I have run into a new problem entirely. The same image appears on duplicate planes even when they show the correct image on their respective material view.

you need to apply the new one to the new plane, select the new plane and just apply the new material that has the new image

Thanks mit for all the help.

I just observed that my plane duplication process was defaulting to "instance" instead of "copy".

Changing that fixed the problem.

You and Ezna have no idea how grateful I am.

Thanks a zillion

having the same problem ...but figured it out ...you have to use a uvw map  modifier...and then scale the uv gizmo Autodesk really screwed up on this one...it as so much simpler before  in earlier versions where all you had to do was match bitmap from viewport config
