How to modify lights dimensions or convert to lights? To fit in/scale right?Basic

Hi.

https://prnt.sc/q4riwe

I'm using a trial version of 2014 Max. Nevertheless, you can see the picture. How to make lights fit in to a certain scale of the light bulb?

I have lights that I created and want just to fit them into the geometry lights I imported - which are not lights by themselves, but geometry objects.

Yes, I'm new to to that and it's pretty basic.

Thanks in advance.

I guess you use Photometric FreeLight:

Select the light->Shape/Area shadows->Emit light from (shape)->Sphere.

Make the radius as big as the lightbulb. You can also use the scale tool to NU scale the sphere.

Hey, Aon, thanks, it works.

I was thinking that the easy way would be just to go to modify of the object, select a vertices (polygon, etc) that already form a lightbulb and then just somehow convert it to lights.

And then rescale it. Cause it's annoying when I have rotated lightbulbes for example (not on this picture).

Like creating lighbulbs from a polygon or selected vertices would be a good modifier or a script.

Best regards

@AnonymousIf you want real geometry  as light source, you will have to use Arnold Renderer.

With Arnold you can use Mesh Lights that allow you to pick any mesh as light source.

As an alternative to that, you can use Physical Material Emission parameter to make geometry self-illuminating. This should work with both Arnold and ART renderer.

Let me know if you need an example scene.

Thank you very much @Anonymous  🙂

That was exactly what I was thinking about.

It's ok.
